Trinka is the main character of the book The Foregrounds. She is introverted & reclusive therefore she prefers to keep to herself most days. When she is not listing to her grandparents tell tales of Oshia before the foregrounds she tends to the family’s milking cows, and does whatever chores need to be done around the house. Her life is simple and orderly, just the way she likes it.

But there are currently three different puss filled blemishes on her current simple lifestyle.

One, her current partner Augustus Halloway. An annoying trite of creature she will have no choice but to marry and have babies with one day…yuck! The idea alone makes her want to walk out to sea with bags of sand tied around her ankles.

Two, her treasonous and secret hatred for Oshia, their King, its rules, and its people. Why is she being forced to populate an already populated kingdom? And why is everyone so okay with it happening?

And three, her confusing yet telling feelings for the princess. Her princess. Princess Alinora Octavious. Alinora makes Trinka feverish. Like that one time she got sick after Winifred, one of the family milking cows, got lose and she had to run out into the pouring rain to catch her. Like that day, but hotter.

Her only goal is to stay out of the foregrounds as much as possible. If she gets injured, or worse killed, who will take care of her wheelchair bound mother and elderly grandparents? The fat King Drogo surely won’t. They aren’t “strong”, like other families and weakness is seen as a curse on Oshia.

Her only hope is to keep her head down, stay out of trouble and away from anyone or anything that can pose a threat to her current lifestyle.
